*CRACK. SNAP.* The second and third chains gave way in rapid succession, the thick, rune-carved silver links exploding outward like fragile glass under the sheer force of his awakening. The dungeon guard stationed outside the cell finally snapped out of his stunned paralysis. "Sound the alarm!" he shrieked, his voice cracking in panic as he fumbled for the heavy silver baton at his belt. "The Mad King is loose! Get the Alpha Heir!" Kaelen didn't even look at him. His movements were a terrifying blur of shadows and raw, unadulterated violence. The final chain shattered, and he landed on the dungeon floor with a heavy thud that shook the very foundations of the castle. The silver dust settled around him like a halo of destruction. The guard stupidly thrust his baton through the iron bars, aiming for the Alpha's shoulder. Kaelen’s hand shot out. He didn't just grab the weapon; his massive hand wrapped around the thick iron bars of the cell door. With a sickening screech of tearing metal, he effortlessly wrenched the bars apart, bending solid iron as if it were warm wax. He stepped through the ruined threshold, moving with the predatory grace of a nightmare unbound. With a casual, almost bored flick of his wrist, he backhanded the guard. The impact sounded like a cannon firing. The man flew across the corridor, slamming into the far stone wall with a catastrophic crunch. He slid to the floor, instantly lifeless, a trail of dark blood smearing the stones. Total silence descended upon the dungeon, broken only by my ragged, terrified breathing. My brain finally kicked into gear, screaming a single, primal command: *RUN.* I scrambled to my feet, my injured ankle screaming in protest. I ignored the blinding pain, ignored the bleeding gash on my palm, and threw myself toward the heavy, iron-reinforced oak door at the far end of the corridor. *Three days.* My desperate mantra echoed in my head. *My plan was just three days away.* But that plan was dead now. The map, the timing, the moon—none of it mattered. If I didn't get out of this dungeon right this second, I would be torn to shreds by a feral, resurrected beast. My wet boots slipped on the slick cobblestones, but I propelled myself forward with sheer, adrenaline-fueled terror. Ten yards. Five yards. I could see the rusted iron handle of the door. My hand reached out, fingers stretching desperately toward freedom. I never touched it. A sudden gust of displaced air hit my back, carrying an overwhelming, intoxicating scent—a suffocating blend of dark pine, ozone, and fresh, coppery blood. Before I could even blink, a massive, clawed hand slammed flat against the oak door, right beside my head. The thick wood splintered under the sheer, terrifying force of his grip. "Going somewhere?" a voice rumbled. It wasn't human. It was a dark, gravelly vibration that resonated directly in my chest, laced with the lethal, inescapable promise of a predator who had just cornered his prey. I froze, paralyzed by a sheer, suffocating terror. Slowly, agonizingly, I was spun around. My back hit the cold, damp wood of the door, but all I could feel was the furnace-like heat radiating from the behemoth trapping me. Kaelen towered over me, a terrifying vision of half-shifted fury. His shoulders were impossibly broad, his chest heaving with every breath. Thick, razor-sharp claws tipped his fingers, and elongated, deadly fangs rested dangerously over his bottom lip. But it was his eyes that stole the breath from my lungs. The swirling crimson and gold held a manic, unhinged gleam. He leaned in, trapping me completely between his massive arms. There was absolutely nowhere to go. His immense size and absolute power suppressed any thought of resistance; it was a physical weight crushing the air from my lungs. He leaned down, his nose brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck. I squeezed my eyes shut, trembling violently, expecting the agonizing tear of teeth through my jugular. Instead, he inhaled deeply. A violent shudder ripped through his massive frame. "Your blood..." he murmured, the deep sound vibrating against my collarbone. He reached down and grabbed my right hand—the one with the jagged cut. I tried to flinch away, but his grip was like an iron vise, inescapable yet surprisingly gentle. He brought my bleeding palm to his face. Slowly, deliberately, his tongue darted out, dragging across the open wound. A jolt of electricity shot up my arm, so intense my knees completely gave out, but his body kept me pinned upright against the door. The second he tasted the blood directly from the source, the last remnants of his injuries vanished. The sluggish black veins disappeared entirely beneath his flawless skin. The Mad King was fully restored, and he was staring at me like I was his sole reason for drawing breath. He dropped my hand and stepped even closer, pressing his hard, heavily muscled chest against my small, frail frame. "You cured the wolfsbane," he whispered, his glowing eyes locking onto mine with a terrifying, obsessive intensity. He lifted a clawed finger, tracing the line of my jaw with agonizing slowness. "Such a sweet, potent little thing hiding in the filth." "P-please," I stammered, my voice barely a squeak, tears of pure terror pricking my eyes. "Let me go." A dark, dangerous smirk curled his lips, fully exposing those lethal fangs. His eyes darkened, the gold being entirely swallowed by an aggressive, possessive crimson. "Let you go?" he repeated softly, though the menace in his tone was undeniable. He leaned in until our lips were practically brushing, the heat of his breath sending violent shivers down my spine. He suddenly slammed both hands against the door on either side of my head, caging me in a cage of pure, unstoppable muscle. The heavy oak groaned in protest, threatening to buckle. "You saved me," he snarled softly, a terrifyingly possessive edge lacing every syllable. "And you think you can still run away?" My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. The escape plan, the map, the dream of freedom—it all evaporated into dust. I hadn't just saved an enemy Alpha; I had inadvertently anchored the most dangerous beast in the world directly to me. And looking into his crazed, burning eyes, I knew with absolute, chilling certainty: my absolute nightmare was just beginning, and he was never going to let me go.
