📖 Dark Magic, Hidden Hearts
The Spell of Memory
The empty classroom smelled of chalk dust and old textbooks, fluorescent lights buzzing faintly overhead. Emma’s hands shook as she traced the intricate symbols across the air, murmuring the forbidden incantation under her breath. Her pulse thundered in her ears—this was the only way.
Brianna had cornered her here, eyes wide with venom and triumph, convinced she had finally caught Emma alone. “Trying something secret again?” she sneered, voice tight with jealousy.
Emma’s stomach twisted. “I… I just want you to forget,” she said, voice barely above a whisper. Forget the auditorium. Forget the light. Forget everything that could get me exposed.
Her hands flared with light as the “Emotional Chains” spell activated. Streams of violet energy snaked toward Brianna, meant to coil around her memories, erasing the pain and humiliation Emma had suffered.
But something went wrong.
The energy wavered, crackled, and then snapped back.
Brianna’s eyes widened in horror as the violet tendrils recoiled toward Emma, wrapping around her like a living thing. The spell had failed. And now she could see everything.
Emma gasped, stumbling back. “No… no, this isn’t—”
Brianna froze, her face illuminated by the residual glow of Emma’s magic. She saw it—the raw power surging from Emma’s veins, the flicker of light beneath her skin, the storm contained in her trembling hands.
Her scream was involuntary, a mix of awe and terror. “What… what are you?”
Emma’s heart seized. “I—It’s… it’s not what you think. I didn’t mean—”
But Brianna wasn’t listening. Her fear twisted into something darker—obsession, jealousy, a burning desire for revenge. Her eyes glimmered with manic clarity. “You… you’ve been lying to all of us. Hiding this… power. You’ve been lying!”
Emma’s stomach dropped. She had hoped secrecy would protect her, but now the veil was torn away. She could see it in Brianna’s expression—their dynamic had shifted. The predator and prey lines had blurred.
“I… I just wanted to protect myself!” Emma pleaded, the room trembling faintly as magic reacted to her panic.
Brianna took a cautious step forward, fascination fighting with fear. “Protect yourself? Or control me?”
Emma’s hands shook uncontrollably. Sparks leapt from her fingertips, bouncing off the walls. Her pulse hammered against her temples. “I didn’t want this! I didn’t want anyone to see!”
But Brianna had seen.
And she would never unsee.
A cold, terrifying smile spread across Brianna’s face, a smile that promised obsession, revenge, and chaos. “Oh… now everything changes,” she whispered, her voice low, dangerously eager.
Emma’s chest tightened with dread. The spell had backfired.
Her secret was out.
And the war had only just begun.
