The dust in the Silvermane courtyard had yet to settle, hanging in the cold night air like a shroud over the catastrophic devastation. Silas Williams, the golden boy and revered Alpha Heir of the Silvermane Pack, stood at the edge of the massive, jagged crater that had once been the ceiling of his impenetrable dungeon. Around him lay the broken, twisted bodies of his elite guard. The very men who were supposed to represent the pinnacle of his military might had been casually swatted aside like irritating insects. He stared into the gaping black hole, his chest heaving, his immaculate, tailor-made clothes coated in a layer of pale stone dust. "Silas!" The frantic, booming voice of his father, Alpha Thorne, echoed across the courtyard as he shoved his way through the gathering crowd of terrified pack members. Thorne took one look at the carnage and visibly paled. "What in the Goddess’s name happened here? Where is the Bloodmoon prisoner? Where is the Mad King?" Silas clenched his jaw so hard his teeth ground together. He didn't answer immediately. He couldn't. Because beneath the boiling, humiliating rage of being utterly bested on his own territory, a cold, unfamiliar sensation was creeping into Silas’s veins. Panic. A sharp, agonizing spasm suddenly ripped through Silas’s chest. He gasped, stumbling backward a half-step. His hand flew to his shoulder, where a falling chunk of masonry had grazed him during Kaelen’s explosive exit. It was a minor wound, a mere scratch that should have healed before the stone even hit the ground. He pulled his hand away and stared at his fingertips in the moonlight. They were slick with his own blood. The cut wasn't closing. The skin remained torn, throbbing with a dull, persistent ache that Silas hadn't felt in over three years. *No,* Silas thought, his eyes widening in absolute, paralyzing horror. *No, no, no. This can't be happening.* He closed his eyes, desperately reaching out with his mind, trying to locate the dark, parasitic tether he had anchored to his sister’s soul. For years, that tether had been his lifeline. Elara was a pureblood, born with an ancient, dormant vitality that defied logic. When she had failed to shift at sixteen, the pack had labeled her a useless spare. But Silas had known the truth. A dark witch had revealed it to him. Elara wasn’t weak; her power was simply trapped beneath the surface, waiting for a trigger. So, Silas had ensured she never found that trigger. He had bound her, cursed her, and turned her into his own personal battery. Every time he trained, every time he fought, every time he sustained a lethal blow, the curse siphoned Elara’s pureblood healing directly into his own body. Her pain was his absolute power. Her exhaustion was his limitless stamina. He was the perfect, invincible heir, entirely built on the crushed, bleeding spine of his little sister. But now, as he reached out into the dark void of his mind, he found nothing. The tether was stretched to its absolute breaking point, blocked by an overwhelming, monstrous Alpha aura that was rapidly moving north. Kaelen’s scent—a suffocating blanket of ozone and dark pine—was actively shielding Elara from the siphon. Without her, Silas was just a slightly above-average wolf. Without his "blood bag," the illusion of his god-like strength would shatter, and the pack elders would see him for the weak, fraudulent parasite he truly was. "Silas!" Alpha Thorne demanded, grabbing his son's shoulder. "Answer me! How did he escape?" Silas snapped out of his internal spiral. The raw, bleeding panic in his gut instantly transmuted into a dark, calculated malice. He knew exactly how to play this. He had spent his entire life wearing the mask of the perfect, benevolent son. Silas forced his breathing to quicken. He let his knees buckle slightly, falling to the ruined cobblestones as if overcome by unimaginable grief. He looked up at his father, forcing moisture into his eyes. "He... he ambushed us," Silas choked out, his voice thick with perfectly manufactured devastation. "The wolfsbane—he must have built up an immunity. He broke the silver chains like they were nothing, Father. We fought him, but he was a feral beast. He tore through my men to get to the surface." "Then we must track him!" Thorne roared, turning to the remaining warriors. "Mobilize the hunting parties! He is still weak; he cannot have gone far!" "Wait!" Silas cried out, grabbing his father's arm with a trembling, blood-stained hand. He let a single tear slip down his cheek. "Father... it’s not just the Mad King. It’s Elara." A murmur of confusion rippled through the gathered crowd. Elara was a ghost to them. Most of the pack barely remembered the "spare" even existed, assuming she simply kept to the shadows out of shame for her wolf-less nature. "What does your useless sister have to do with this?" Thorne asked, his brow furrowing in irritation. "She was in the dungeon, cleaning the floors as punishment," Silas said, his voice cracking beautifully. He looked around at the pack members, ensuring every single wolf was listening to his tragic performance. "The beast... he grabbed her, Father. I tried to stop him. I threw myself at him, but he used her as a shield! He took Elara! The Mad King kidnapped my little sister!" Gasps of horror echoed through the courtyard. "Why would he take a wolf-less slave?" one of the elders muttered suspiciously. "Because he is a monster!" Silas roared, standing up and pointing an accusing, furious finger toward the northern mountains. "He took her to torture her! To use her as a hostage to force our surrender! He knows how much I love her, how much this family cherishes her! He took her to break us!" It was the perfect lie. By framing Elara’s disappearance as a vicious kidnapping, Silas wasn’t just covering up his own catastrophic failure; he was weaponizing the pack’s pride. Alpha Thorne’s face darkened, a fierce, territorial rage contorting his features. He might not have cared for Elara, but no rival Alpha was allowed to step into his territory and steal his bloodline. It was an ultimate declaration of war. "Sound the war horns," Thorne commanded, his voice a lethal, vibrating boom that sent the surrounding warriors scrambling into action. "Call the banners. Every able-bodied wolf is to prepare for a siege." Silas watched the chaos unfold, his heart pounding a frantic, desperate rhythm against his unhealed ribs. He lowered his head, hiding the psychotic, desperate gleam in his eyes behind the guise of a grieving brother. *Run as fast as you can, little sister,* Silas thought, his nails biting so deeply into his palms that fresh blood welled to the surface. *Hide behind the Mad King all you want. I will tear down the entire Bloodmoon fortress to drag you back to that dungeon.* Because Silas knew the terrifying truth: if he didn't get his blood bag back before the full moon in three days, the siphon curse would permanently break. And when it did, the artificial strength holding his body together would collapse, and he would be nothing but a weak, pathetic fraud. He would not let a piece of trash ruin his destiny. He would get her back, and when he did, he would chain her so deep in the earth that she would never see the sun again.
