Richard did not hand the page to Olivia at first. He set it on the desk between the silver letter opener and the half-fed engagement announcement, as if paper could bruise if the wrong hand touched it. Olivia looked at the single cream sheet, then at him. "I asked to see it." "You should have your counsel present," Richard said. Martha seized the sentence like a ribbon. "Exactly. This is not a midnight circus for a wounded girl's performance. Olivia, you are being drawn into a fraud claim while you are upset." "Then I will read while upset," Olivia said. ADA Alvarez stepped closer, phone still recording from chest height. "Mr. Thorne, place it flat. No one removes it from the desk. Ms. Chen, Ms. Thorne, Mr. Hunt, no coaching." Leah felt the old false name cut through the room and did not correct it. Olivia's humiliation had a pulse of its own now. If Leah made this about being called Isabella, Martha would win the camera. Richard laid the page flat. Olivia bent over it. The diamond clips in her hair caught the desk lamp, bright and cold. Her lips moved once before sound came. "Upon public confirmation of an Olivia Thorne and Ethan Hunt marriage commitment, emergency voting control attached to the Voss-Hunt preservation block may be transferred pending identity resolution." She stopped. "My marriage commitment." Ethan's hands closed at his sides. "I never signed that." "You did not have to," Olivia said, and the bitterness in her voice made him flinch. She tapped a line with one manicured nail. "Projected public assent shall satisfy family-notice optics pending formal execution." Martha gave a tired laugh. "Optics means protection. We were protecting you from tabloids, from instability, from a girl who arrived tonight with a dead name and a lawyer on speaker." Leah heard Nora inhale through Ethan's phone, ready to object. Leah spoke first. "Olivia, if you want this stopped without taking a public side tonight, say only that you did not authorize your name for trust control. Nothing about me. Nothing about Martha." Olivia looked up. "You are giving me the cleanest exit from your own proof." "I want the mechanism preserved," Leah said. "Not your face under it." For one second the room was almost quiet enough for the printer to sound loud. Ethan turned toward Olivia, not touching her, not rescuing her. "I should have said no in public before anyone could use you. I let silence do their work. That part is mine." Martha's mouth tightened. "How noble, Ethan. Apologize while she burns the only bridge that keeps this family from open war." Olivia straightened. "There was never a bridge. There was a page with my name standing where my consent should be." She unlocked her phone with a shaking thumb and opened her camera. Martha moved too fast toward her. "Do not," ADA Alvarez said. Martha stopped, but her eyes went flat. "If you photograph that, Olivia, you make yourself part of her identity fraud." Olivia took the photograph. The flash whitened the page, Richard's hand, Martha's face. Leah felt the room tilt toward consequence. Olivia did not post it. She opened her messages instead, scrolled once, and her expression changed from hurt to disbelief. "It was already sent," she said. Ethan stepped closer. "What was?" Olivia turned the phone so Alvarez's camera could catch the screen. A scheduled media email sat in her drafts, addressed to a society-page editor Leah recognized from every Thorne gala. Subject: OLIVIA THORNE AND ETHAN HUNT TO ANNOUNCE FAMILY TRUST UNION AT 9 A.M. Beneath it waited an attachment named Olivia_Authorization_Signed.pdf. Olivia whispered, "That is not my signature." Nora's voice cut through the speaker, suddenly sharp. "Nobody moves. That forged authorization just changed the filing."
