The empty name field waited for Leah like a witness box. Ethan held the phone flat between them so no one could say his thumb had chosen for her. On the screen, the Thorne Group independent director portal blinked beneath Nora's emergency filing header: Claimant Name Required. Outside, the gate camera showed Olivia lifting her face toward the house lights. "Do not type that name," Martha said. No one moved. Martha's voice softened, which made it worse. "Look at her. She believes she is coming home to announce a future. You will make her walk into a fraud spectacle for your revenge." Leah saw Olivia pause beside the town car, her pale coat bright against the black gates, her assistant already speaking into two phones. For one bitter second, Leah imagined the morning Martha wanted: Olivia smiling beside Ethan, Olivia forgiving confusion, Olivia becoming the wounded daughter while Leah became the hungry impostor. Ethan said, "Olivia's feelings do not give anyone permission to use my consent." Martha looked at him as if he had broken something expensive. "You were raised better than this." Ethan's gaze stayed on the phone. "I was purchased better than this." The line hit the room hard enough that even Richard looked at him. Nora's voice cut through the phone. "Leah, I need the claimant name. The portal will time out in ninety seconds." Richard had the trustee authorization page pressed to the desk under both hands. ADA Alvarez stood beside him, photographing the signature, the printer tray, the engagement notice, the phone screen. Every click sounded like a door locking. Leah touched the screen but did not type. Her hand knew Leah Chen. It knew the easy restaurant signature, the rent forms, the cheap health insurance card, the name that had kept her alive. Isabella Rose Voss was not easy. It was a grave, a birth certificate, a stock block, two murdered parents, and the first honest door she had ever been afraid to open. On the monitor, Olivia's assistant turned toward the camera and raised her own phone. A notification flashed across the study computer before anyone touched it. Martha's prepared announcement had moved from scheduled to pending approval. "Thirty seconds," Nora said. Martha stepped closer, detective's hand still on her elbow. "If you write Isabella Rose Voss into that portal, I will file identity fraud before sunrise. I will put Olivia on camera holding the engagement notice you destroyed. I will ask every network why a woman with a dead heiress's name waited until a stock transfer became valuable." Leah looked at Ethan. "Record this." He was already doing it. "Recording." Leah lifted her voice so the phone, the detectives, Richard, Martha, and the house could keep it. "I am not claiming Olivia's life. I am claiming the name stolen from mine. I am not asking Thorne Group to give me power tonight. I am demanding that no one transfer my parents' trust block into a marriage I did not consent to and Ethan Hunt did not consent to." Richard closed his eyes once. Leah typed the first letter. I. Martha's breath changed. S. The old woman had not looked frightened in the vault. She looked frightened now. Leah typed the rest without stopping. Isabella Rose Voss. The portal accepted the letters, then opened a second field: Public Preservation Statement. Nora exhaled. "I have the language. Paste exactly." Ethan read from Nora's secure message while Leah entered each line: Isabella Rose Voss, surviving heir, through counsel, contests any transfer of Voss restoration trust assets, any Olivia Thorne/Ethan Hunt engagement notice tied to such transfer, and any use of non-consensual marriage instruments. Martha gave a small, ugly laugh. "Bloodless little notice." Nora answered before Leah could. "Legal little notice. That is why it works." Leah pressed Submit. For two seconds, nothing happened. Then the study computer chimed. The pending engagement announcement vanished from the approval queue. In its place, a red banner crossed the screen: Emergency Director Hold Initiated - Claimant Notice Logged. The sound that left Richard was almost a sob. Leah did not get to feel it. Olivia appeared in the study doorway still wearing the pale blue dress meant for morning cameras. Her phone was in her hand. Her face had gone white. "Why," Olivia whispered, looking from Ethan to Leah, "does every alert in New York say my engagement is blocked by Isabella Rose Voss?" Behind her, Martha smiled again.
