Harbor Worksite had already logged a clean rail under Rail Paint Intake Forty before Mira reached freezer C. The proof was on the clipboard Pike held against his coat, dry blue paint flaking from the sample bag in his other hand while two workers rolled a yellow cart away from the First Aid Annex door. Rain ran through the open ribs of the temporary roof. The annex generator coughed behind the security glass, and the cold-room alarm blinked amber over a metal door marked C. "Intake Forty is satisfied," Pike said. "Dry control rail, logged at worksite custody, no hospital badge material present." Mira stopped on the painted line before the freezer bay. Sienna stood beside her with the red keycard, Blue Receipt, bracelet sleeve, C-7C print, yellow HBI-3 field copy, hotel print, route strip, parcel authorization, and Room 417 seal stacked in her own folder. Noah raised his phone but kept behind the visitor tape. Tessa and Jalen took the two angles where the cart would have to pass them. "You logged a clean rail before reading the hospital field copy," Mira said. Pike smiled at the workers. "We logged a rail before contamination walked in." Jalen said, "That cart moved before we crossed the gate." One worker looked down. The cart wheels had left a wet track from freezer C to the loading shed. Rusk came out from the annex with a tablet held high enough for the camera. "Harbor Worksite is not a hospital records desk. HBI-3 is a privacy marker, not a construction item. The clean rail resolves the worksite portion." Sienna opened the yellow copy without handing it over. "It says source tag match required before merge." "It says a clerk copied an internal field," Rusk said. Mira pointed to the freezer keypad. "Then compare the clerk copy to the source tag. Field number only. No name." The cold-room attendant behind the glass, a young man with oil on his collar tag, shook his head before Pike looked at him. His badge read Arlen Vos. "Freezer C opens under worksite custody or property release. One or the other." Sienna's phone buzzed. Holt's name filled the screen, followed by a message preview: Final Room 417 review open. Clean rail can satisfy object hold if seal is presented. Sienna turned the phone toward Mira, not toward the reader. "They want the seal again." "They want consent," Mira said. "They do not get it." Rusk tapped his tablet. "If she wants the freezer to acknowledge object presence, the system requires the seal." Mira looked at Arlen. "Say the exact request." Arlen glanced at the camera in Noah's hand. "Limited object-present read. Seal remains in claimant hand. No property release. It may open the comparison screen, not the freezer drawer." Pike snapped, "Arlen." "Say it into your worksite log," Mira said. Arlen swallowed and pressed the desk microphone. "Limited object-present read requested for Rail Paint Intake Forty. Claimant retains seal. Release not granted." Sienna pressed only the metal edge of the Room 417 seal to the exterior reader, two fingers tight over it. The screen above freezer C flickered from Pike's clean-rail page to a split field: CLEAN CONTROL ACCEPTED on the left, HBI-3 SOURCE TAG HELD on the right. Between them a gray box waited for field-copy match. Rusk moved closer. "That does not open custody." "No," Mira said. "It opens your lie." Sienna laid the yellow HBI-3 copy under the acrylic lip below the screen. She did not let Arlen take it. Arlen scanned the field number through the glass. The gray box filled with a hash string, then with three smaller lines: O. VANE TEMPORARY OVERRIDE, FREEZER C SOURCE TAG, MATCH BEFORE NAME MERGE. Pike dropped the clean rail bag onto the clipboard. "Control rail is enough." Tessa stepped forward, voice tight but clear. "Why does the control rail have today's rain on the bag and no freezer frost?" The worker on the cart looked toward Pike. Noah shifted his phone to catch him. Mira said, "Arlen, read the source tag status." Arlen's hand hovered over the keyboard. The alarm above freezer C gave one short beep. "Source tag sealed. Drawer C-4. HBI-3 cloth badge residue. Blue rail paint. Hospital field copy match pending." Rusk said, "Do not read material descriptions." "He already did," Sienna said. Pike reached for the clean rail bag. Jalen moved one pace, not touching Pike, just closing the cart lane. "Camera is on your hand." The freezer screen shifted again. A red warning appeared under the clean rail page: CONTROL SAMPLE PRELOGGED BEFORE FIELD COPY ARRIVAL. SUBSTITUTION REVIEW REQUIRED. The cold in the room seemed to step through the wall. Mira kept her eyes on Arlen. "Open drawer C-4 to camera. Field copy comparison only." "I need supervisor clearance." "Who is the supervisor on the source tag?" Arlen touched the line. The glass reflected his face and the phones behind him. "Handler override O. Vane. Worksite custody witness P. Pike. Counsel listener Rusk station. Room 417 satisfaction path attached." Sienna's fingers tightened around the seal until the knuckles whitened. "My room is on your rail sample." Pike said, "Your room is a separate claimant matter." The screen answered before Mira could. ROOM 417 OBJECT HOLD LINKED TO CLEAN CONTROL SATISFACTION. SOURCE TAG SUPERSEDES CONTROL IF FIELD COPY MATCHES. Noah breathed out. "It says the real tag beats the clean rail." Rusk lunged for the keypad. Mira put her forearm across the visitor line, not touching him, forcing him either to stop or cross into the marked evidence bay. He stopped. The older worksite guard at the side door looked from the line to the camera and did not help him. Arlen opened drawer C-4. Frost rolled out low and white. Inside the shallow tray sat a cloth tag sealed in a clear pouch, its corner stained the same blue as the rail paint on Sienna's old bracelet film. A torn hospital barcode clung to the pouch edge. Beside it was a metal scraping in a glassine sleeve, darker than Pike's dry sample and marked by a small strip of yellow carbon. Sienna covered her mouth once, then lowered her hand. "Do not say his name." "We do not need to," Mira said. Arlen scanned the pouch through the drawer window. The screen accepted the yellow copy. HBI-3 SOURCE TAG MATCHED. NAME MERGE BLOCKED PENDING PUBLIC PRODUCTION. CLEAN CONTROL REJECTED AS SATISFACTION. Pike's smile disappeared. Rusk said, "Public production is a tribunal function." "Good," Mira said. "Print the production target." Arlen's printer started before Pike could shut the drawer. The strip came out blue-edged from the worksite machine, the letters small but hard as nail heads: BLUE RECEIPT AT TRIBUNAL ROOM FORTY-ONE. PRODUCE HBI-3 SOURCE TAG, CLEAN CONTROL REJECTION, AND ROOM 417 SATISFACTION PATH BEFORE WITNESS RAIL. Sienna took the strip with her own fingers. Holt called again. She declined it, placed the phone face down on top of the Room 417 seal, and looked through the glass at the cloth tag in freezer C. "They made my room the lock," she said. Mira folded the worksite strip beside the yellow hospital copy. "Now we make the rail read the key in public."
